Greenland Central School – Math In Focus

This site contains Math In Focus and additional math resources.

Two years ago, after an extensive review process by the GCS Math Committee, the decision was made to adopt a new math program, “Math in Focus”, which utilizes the Singapore Math approach. We chose this program because of its success in other school districts, the abundance of quality resources, and for the support it provides to teachers, students, and parents. Math in Focus was also selected because it aligns with our academic standards as well as the new Common Core State Standards. During the past school year, grades 4 and 5 successfully transitioned from the Everyday Math program to Math in Focus. During the 2013-2014 school year, our remaining K-8 grades will implement Math in Focus. Teachers have attended several days of intensive professional development related to our new program. Training and support will continue for staff as well as for interested GCS parents and family members – look for the “Parent University” to be scheduled this fall in the “Upcoming Events” section of this site.

The information in this blog represents resources collected and organized from many different websites and sources, including  Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s Math in Focus website.  This blog is a work-in-progress and will continue to be updated to meet the needs of our GCS school community.  Please be sure to sign up via email to receive updates automatically.

Thank you for investing your time to learn more about our new program, Math in Focus, and mathematics. We appreciate your support as we make this exciting transition school wide.
